Bokaro Steel City is a city established and managed by Bokaro Steel Plant (BSL) and is well known as ‘Education’ and ‘Steel’ hub. Now the city is emerging as a ‘Sports Hub’; and received a place in the worldwide list of ‘Active Well-being Initiative Network’ sponsored by the IOC Committee.

Around 39 sports centers will soon be developed in Bokaro Steel’s township area and its periphery, to promote sports and fitness events for the well-being of the people.

These sports centers would be developed for the various activities that include badminton, cricket, volleyball, handball, football, hockey, kabbadi, and the walking tracks, according to Jaideep Sarkar, Lead Officer, and Project Director, of the Global Active City Programme Bokaro.

Bokaro Steel City is now connected to the Global Active City (GAC) network under the ‘nucleus mission’ protected and supported by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and destined by the United Nations standards of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Meanwhile, the district authorities in co-ordination with Bokaro Steel Plant (BSL) management are on their operations to promote sports for the well being of the people living in Bokaro.

BSL management has also launched a ‘Calendar of Events’ to promote sports for the well beings of the residents. The management released an action plan to support sports on the primary level.
