The Sports Authority of India has requested all the coaches of the organization to conduct fitness tests twice per year, and to prepare the account for the same being in their individual files.

The fitness tests would be introduced on the guidelines of Age Appropriate Fitness Protocol that was originated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 24th September 2020, through the Fit India Dialogue. These age protocols are the first-ever set of age-appropriate fitness tests that have been originated in India.

As part of the Fitness Protocol, all coaches will have to clear the Body Composition Test – BMI, muscular strength test – abdominal/core strength (partial curl-up) balance test – Flamingo balance & trikonasana (Tree Pose) & naukasana (Boat Pose), Modified Push-Ups for Girls/ Women & Sit-ups for both, Muscular Endurance Test – Push-Ups for Boys/ Men, Flexibility Test – V Sit Reach Test and Aerobic/ Cardio-vascular fitness test – 2.4 Km Walk/Run.

Emphasizing the significance of fitness among coaches and the determination of SAI to complete the fitness tests, SAI said in a report, “Sports Authority of India is essentially accountable for the preparation of athletes through expert coaches. The fitness of coaches is one of the necessary ingredients for them to give fruitful training on the field. Coaches require to sustain a certain level of fitness so as to show the way of development to the athletes. Therefore, coaches have been encouraged to engage the physical fitness evaluation as per the order twice per year.”

These fitness tests have been planned by a committee of experts, who after a comprehensive discussion and analysis, finalized the fitness protocols for each age group.
