In the wake of India’s growing stature in the sport of Shooting, The International Shooting Sport Federation’s Combined World Cup is scheduled to be held in New Delhi just before 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
The ISSF combined world cup features events in rifle, pistol and shotgun. The upcoming event will mark seventh times, India has been hosting any continental or global multi-nation shooting competition since 2012. The decision came after a deliberate ongoing meeting between National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) president, Raninder Singh and ISSF officials.
Raninder expressing bliss said,” “we are extremely grateful to the ISSF president and the entire executive committee for reposing faith in the country’s and NRAI’s ability to hold such big competition’’. Such event help to grow the sport in our country further and boosts the chances of our shooting athletes , both in terms of gaining confidence by competing with the world best at home and also in terms in gaining more spots in important competitions away from home, like the Olympics”
He added more,” a big thank you also to the government of India who have always been supportive and not the least to team NRAI and the entire shooting fraternity of the country for delivering to their tasks and creating new benchmarks in performance standards”
It is expected that India will host a world cup next year from Feb 20 to February 28 at national capital’s Dr. Karni Singh Shooting Range, which will be a quota event for the Tokyo event which will offer Olympic quota places for Tokyo.
For the last few years, India has been hosting a row of international fixtures, including ISSF combines world cup 2017 and Asian Olympic competition in 2016 and the most reputed season ending world cup finals.
Dates of the upcoming shooting world cup is awaited as the ISSF has only marked the dates for the Olympic games as well as world cup In Tokyo, a test event for the Olympics for 2020.
