Fitness is important for personal from different walks of professions. Fitness not only enhances the performance of the personals but also reduce the stress due to work schedule. Following the same objectives, the Fire and Rescue Services Department of Villupuram District of Tamil Nadu has opened a gym to make their personals fit and active for their role on duty.

Robin Castro, the District Fire Officer of Villupuram district is the mastermind behind the health initiative. A 2019-Batch Officer, Castro has introduced a plan for all 145 firefighters personals to remain fit and active.

In a bid to lessen the stress due to rapid panic calls and roles on duty, the department has guided all its firefighters to go for their personal fitness for at least one hour before hitting their daily work.

As part of their training, the commandos have to run for 5 km daily, followed by weight training for 20 minutes, rope training, and tire exercises.

The team, led by Mr. Castro, also goes cycling during the weekends, covering a minimum of 100 km.

At a time, when firefighter personals also have to engage themselves in decontamination of public places, such healthy initiatives are an exemplary move by the Villupuram Fire Service Department.
