Indian table tennis players Manav Thakkar and Ayhika Mukherjee made a strong start in the WTT Star Contender Goa 2024 tournament. In the men’s singles, Manav Thakkar secured a comfortable victory against Anshuman Agarwal with a 3-0 (11-7, 11-4, 11-4) straight-game win. Thakkar advanced to the third round of qualifying, where he is set to face Senegal’s Ibrahima Diaw.

In the women’s singles category, Ayhika Mukherjee emerged victorious against Sayali Wani with a 3-0 (11-9, 11-2, 12-10) win in the second qualifying round. Meanwhile, Poymantee Baisya defeated Pritha Priya Vartikar 3-0 (12-10, 11-7, 11-7) in the first qualifying round.

However, not all Indian paddlers had success, as Achanta Sharath Kamal and Sanil Shetty faced defeats in the second round. Sharath Kamal lost 2-3 (11-6, 12-10, 4-11, 15-17, 3-11) against South Korea’s Kang Dongsoo, while Sanil Shetty was beaten 3-2 (14-12, 11-9, 11-13, 7-11, 11-6) by Algeria’s Mehdi Bouloussa.

In the mixed doubles category, the Indian pair of Manush Shah and Diya Chitale secured a convincing 3-0 (11-4, 11-7, 11-6) victory against the Indonesian pair of Quek Izaac and Zhou Jingyi. Sreeja Akula and Snehit Suravajjula also had success, defeating the Indonesian pair Pang Koen and Wong Ru 3-1 (11-9, 13-11, 7-11, 11-8) to advance to the qualifying round 2.
