Greenwood Laboratory School launched its all new multipurpose gym and stage venue at Missouri State University on Friday.

The Betty & Bobby Allison Event Center has been built with a major gift from Bobby Allison. The construction has been successful due to donations from more than 100 Greenwood alumni and friends. State funds also went for the project is into the $6.4 million. The 23,000 square foot facility includes a gymnasium for various high school sports and a special performance stage area.

“This is going to be a big day in Greenwood’s history,” Dr. Janice Duncan, director of Greenwood, said with full of confidence. “We’re so thankful to have this area that will encourage our students to get the very most maximum from their education and experience from here.”

The gym is just under 40 percent bigger than its previous facility, and the seating capacity includes both 290 retractable seats and 322 bleacher seats with 250 folding chair seats. Students are really happy to have these new facilities attached to the gym.

The new facilities added to the gym is going to include a weight room, restrooms, concession stand, and corridor to the science labs. It is also joined to a locker room development from 2018.
