Academy Sports + Outdoors is opening its first store in the Peoria area at 7611 North Grand Prairie Dr. This store is over 60,000 square feet and will offer a wide range of sporting goods and outdoor recreation merchandise. The grand opening festivities will take place from Friday, July 7 to Sunday, July 9, with exclusive deals, giveaways, and great prices for customers.
This marks the second store Academy has opened in 2023, and they have ambitious plans for expansion. They aim to open 13 to 15 stores this year and a total of 120 to 140 new stores by the end of 2027.
Customers can expect to find a diverse selection of athletic and casual shoes, sports and outdoor equipment, and clothing from well-known national brands like Nike, adidas, The North Face, Under Armour, Columbia, YETI, Carhartt, Wrangler, CAT, Traeger, and more. Academy also offers its own private label brands such as Magellan Outdoors, Freely, R.O.W., BCG, H2OX, Redfield, Mosaic, and O’Rageous, which cover a range of outdoor apparel and equipment, women’s and men’s apparel, workout attire, fishing equipment, hunting optics and accessories, and water gear.

The new Peoria location will cater to Bears fans, offering tailgating essentials, licensed apparel, and novelty items. Whether customers are looking for fishing equipment for the Illinois River, a Coleman tent for camping, or grills and games for a backyard oasis, Academy will have them covered. Additionally, the store provides free services like grill and bike assembly, scope mounting, bore sighting, and line winding/spooling. Customers can also purchase hunting and fishing licenses directly in the store.
