Commonwealth Game will be hosted in 2022 at UK’s Birmingham. The newly surfaced image, designed according to artist’s imagination allows glimpses into the future.

The new development will cost 70 million Euro. Alexander Stadium, where the closing and opening ceremony will take place will be located at the Walsall Road, Perry Bar area. Newly released image depicts the Birmingham City Council’s intentions to create a legacy asset the area.

The seating capacity of the Commonwealth stadium will be increased from 18,000 to 40,000 through additional temporary seating.

Some key features of the Commonwealth stadium include, 1) A new western stand replacing the main, Knowles and Nelson stands, 2) a new tiered seating to the North and south, 3) a new 400m, six-lane warm to track and re-laying of a IAAF category 1 track, 4) Improved public realm and parking provision, with additional landscaping and signage.

The council leader, Cllr Ian Ward said, “We are now in an exciting phase of the design process where we would like to share our plans for the future with the community and hear their thoughts. The team has designed a redeveloped stadium which will meet the needs and aspirations of the community for generations to come.

This is about creating a destination venue, shaping a legacy beyond the commonwealth games.

We are making lots of information and detail available, so I encourage as many people as possible to come along, have a look at the designs and provide their feedback.”
