Indian triathlete, Gaurav Makkar finished the impossible 5 Ironman distance triathlon in five consecutive days on Hawai Island with flying colors. This achievement enabled him to be among the list of 38 world class athletes who finished this challenge in the last ten years.

Gaurav Makkar is an Indian athlete who first took to long-distance running in 2015. After that, he won many accolades in endurance sports. In 2018, he became the second person from Gurgoan to finish Ultraman Challenge and later that year, he became first Indian to finish the Ultraman World Championship.

Even being rated one of the most fit people in the country, Gaurav at first didn’t consider taking part into the challenge, because it seemed ‘next to impossible’.

During the Five Ironman Challenge, competitors have to take part in 3.8 km swim, 180 km cycling and 42.2 km run for five days. Epic 5 Challenge came into being around 2010. Jason P Lester and Rich Roll were first two contestants who emerged triumphant at the end of this race.

Suzy McCulloch Serpico and Brian Fredley were the other two successful competitors who survived the challenge. Gaurav  Makkar commented on his victory, “The three of us only had seven-eight hours of sleep over the five days of the event. It becomes a question of your will power after a while.”
