Two Indian Karatekas Aniket Gupta and Deepika Dhiman have been selected to represent India in the World Karate Federation (WKF) Karate 1 Premier League Season 2021, slated to held in Portugal. The duo who holds the only highest world ranking in their respective categories from India is also set to make their way for the Olympics games, which is all set to kick-off from 23 July to 8 August 2021 in Tokyo.

Being the last opportunity for qualifying Olympics, nearly 740 Karatekas from 87 countries are registered to participate in this esteemed event. The Karate 1 Premier League Season 2021, will be hosted by The World Karate Federation (WKF) and The National Karate Federation of Portugal. All the events are scheduled to be held in Turkey, Portugal, Uzbekistan, Morocco, and Russia.

The duo, Aniket Gupta and Deepika Dhima have been selected to represent India based on their world ranking. Earlier both had participated in the WKF Karate 1 Premier League at Istanbul, Turkey, which had held from 11 to 14 March 2021. The duo had won three-time gold medals in USA Open International Karate Championship organized by USA National Federation, containing 1 Gold medal in 2015, 2 Gold medal in 2018 and 2 Gold medal in 2019, in all the advanced category event.

Being an undisputed champion in the Official Delhi State Championships for the last 17 years, Aniket is one of the longest playing Indian karate players who have represented India on the Global platform and has been inspiring numerous Indian karate players of the present generation. Under his guidance, several karate players have made their debut and careers, both at national and international levels. Last year Aniket has recommended by National Sports Federation (NSF) as a first player of Karate Sports and has been awarded the prestigious Arjuna Award.

She has been the first awardee of Rajiv Gandhi State Sports Award 2015 and first Indian and South Asian female karate player to win medals in a row, in the last four consecutive Commonwealth Karate Championships Organized by Commonwealth Karate Federation (CKF) in the year 2011, 2013, 2015 & 2018
