Odisha contributes a lot to promote the sport of Hockey in India and the CM of the state, Naveen Patnaik, poses to be a hardcore Hockey enthusiast.
Maintaining the same streak, the state is going to get AstroTurf in all the blocks in the Sundargarh District.
The Initiative is pursued by the state government just days before playing host to the FIH 2018 Men’s Hockey World Cup at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar from November 28 to Dec 16.
Apart from that, the state also is also sponsoring the men’s and women’s national hockey teams in INDIA.
In the wake of Sundargarh’s contributions to the Sport of Hockey, the state CM Naveen Patnaik has announced to install Astroturf at all blocks of the district.
He said during an exhibition hockey match series which Odisha XI won “Probably, Sundargarh will be the only districts with the largest number of astroturfs in the country. And will continue to produce world-class players who will play for the country,”
Hailing Sundargarh for its contribution to the game and producing tremendous hockey players to the country, CM Patnaik said that the state will continue to produce such players in the coming years.
He also added that Odisha is the only state to have its own hockey team- Kalinga Lancers- playing in the Hockey India League.
The team, Kalinga Lancer has also won the champion trophy in the last edition.
“We are also the proud organizers of the Hockey Men’s World Cup 2018 and we hope to successfully conduct the whole event”, he remarked.
Mr. Patnaik highlighted the fact that Odisha is the sole state that sponsors a national hockey team and sponsors Hockey National teams for the next five years. He concluded by informing about a tentative High-Performance Center for Hockey to be established in Bhubaneswar very soon.
