In a closely-fought match, the Indian Women’s Hockey Team lost 2-3 to China. Navneet Kaur scored a double for India, finding the back of the net in the 24th and 45th minutes. On the other hand, China’s goals came from Chen Jiali (9′), Zhong Jiaqi (45′), and Xu Yanan (51′).

Both Women’s Hockey teams started the match with a swift pace in the first quarter. India attacked aggressively and earned a penalty corner (PC) in the third minute, but China’s strong defense denied them a goal. However, shortly after, India conceded a penalty stroke due to an infringement while defending, allowing China to score their first goal in the 9th minute. The following minutes saw both teams getting opportunities through penalty corners, but neither could convert.

India began the second quarter positively and earned back-to-back penalty corners, though they couldn’t capitalize on them. However, a well-executed attack in the 24th minute resulted in Navneet Kaur scoring a fine field goal, equalizing the score and putting India in a good position.

In the 45th minute, Navneet Kaur scored her second goal, giving India a 2-1 lead. Unfortunately, China quickly responded with a penalty corner goal from Zhong Jiaqi, equalizing the score once again. China took the lead in the 51st minute when Xu Yanan scored, making it 3-2 in their favor. Despite a few chances in the dying minutes, India couldn’t breach the Chinese defense.

India’s next matches will be against Germany on 18th and 19th July at 21:00 IST.
