For winning their first World Cup, the women’s team received a cash award of INR 51 crore from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). For the first time in their history, the Harmanpreet Kaur-led team won the event after defeating South Africa by 52 runs in the summit match at the Dr. DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai. The hosts won the eight-team competition in front of their home crowd in 2025, however the Indian team was disappointed in the 2005 and 2017 editions after losing at the final second.

The INR 51 crore award exceeds the amount of money India will get as a prize from the ICC. The event champions will get USD 4.48 million, or approximately INR 39.78 crore, from the top cricket organization.

Devajit Saikia, the secretary of the BCCI, stated to a news agency that the Indian board will award the women’s team INR 51 crore as a token of appreciation for winning a major competition like the World Cup.

“We must undoubtedly appreciate ICC Chair Jay Shah for raising the prize money for the ICC Women’s World Cup barely one month before this competition. In other words, around 300 percent of the reward money is involved,” Saikia stated.

“That is for the teams to receive it, but after their fantastic performance in DY Patil Stadium today, where they defeated South Africa to win the championship, BCCI is thrilled, and without taking any money from the ICC’s coffers, BCCI will pay 51 crores to the Indian team as a reward. The players, selectors, and support staff, led by Amol Muzumdar, will all receive this money,” he continued.

India performs well overall

The primary reason India won their first World Cup was because they outperformed South Africa in all three areas of the game during the summit match.

The Proteas chose to bowl first after winning the toss to start the game. India scored 298 runs thanks to an 87-run innings from Shafali Verma. Laura Wolvaardt, the captain of South Africa, responded with a century, but the effort was in vain as India won by 52 runs thanks to five wickets taken by Deepti Sharma.

Shafali contributed two wickets as well, and her whole performance earned her the Player of the Match award.
