Ergatta, the pioneers of game-based fitness, and World Rowing, the global governing body of rowing, announced a multi-year partnership. Ergatta is now World Rowing’s chosen partner for its gaming and esports projects as a result of the deal. Ergatta will facilitate installations and competitions at important events, such as the World Rowing Championships, the Versa Challenge Finals, and the Virtual Sports Forum, which is co-hosted with the Japan Sports Council, in partnership with hardware partner Concept2.

Utilizing the thrill and widespread appeal of gaming, World Rowing will host esports events using Ergatta’s software to highlight the advantages of indoor rowing and healthier lifestyle choices in general. Additionally, the agreement prepares both organizations to compete in the first Olympic Esports Games, which the International Olympic Committee (IOC) has declared would take place in 2027.

“We are thrilled to partner with World Rowing—it’s a beautiful combination of old and new,” stated Tom Aulet, CEO of Ergatta. “Gamified sports and fitness have massive potential to help people excel, compete, and develop lasting healthy habits. This partnership represents a major step forward in our mission to use games to help people stay physically active.”

“Indoor/connected rowing has undergone a remarkable evolution from a training tool to a vibrant, global sport in its own right,” stated Vincent Gaillard, executive director of World Rowing. “We’ve been interested in gaming and esports for a long time, specifically for their potential to cater to younger and more mainstream audiences. We are delighted to partner with Ergatta, who stood out to us as one of the clear leaders in a growing field of gamifying rowing.”
