US President Donald Trump mockingly remarked that “fans were great” after they jeered him during the US Open final.

His presence caused an unprecedented delay in the thrilling match between Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz, which was the source of the supporters’ dissatisfaction.

The US Open final was postponed because Trump was on the radar of detractors and supporters who publicly expressed their displeasure with his entrance at Arthur Ashe Stadium. Because of security measures put in place to welcome Trump, the US Open final had to be postponed by almost fifty minutes.

He appeared on the big screen prior to the start of the men’s final during the playing of the national anthem. The stadium erupted in screams and ovation as he stood in salute, but the cheers were quickly muffled by jeers, and Trump smirked in response. Fans continued to jeer after the US President made a second appearance on the screen after the first performance and remained there for a while. Fans’ responses to Trump were generally subdued during the show.

As he praised the energetic performance by both athletes, which culminated with Alcaraz winning the title, Trump didn’t hold back from making fun of the fans, telling reporters, “I loved it.” The two athletes are incredibly talented. They simply seemed to hit the ball more forcefully than I had ever seen. Amazing talent. The supporters were quite kind. I was unsure of what to anticipate. Typically, you would describe that group as being relatively “progressive,” as they say these days. The supporters were fantastic.

Trump’s return to the US Open was very similar to his previous visit. When Trump left a match between the Williams sisters, Venus and Serena, in 2015, he was jeered.

Numerous images of people crowding the stadium and establishing long lineups appeared on social media. Several people missed the first part of the game, and seats were still empty even after the final was postponed.

Trump’s appearance on X was criticized by former tennis player Martina Navratilova, who said, “It’s 14:00 and more than half empty, with only one way to get in.” Thank you, President Trump.

In a match that lasted two hours and forty-two minutes, Alcaraz defeated his fiercest opponent by 6-2, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 in the final. Thanks to his valiant actions in New York, the 22-year-old was able to unseat Sinner from the top spot in the world rankings and put an end to the Italian’s 65-week hold.
