Suryakumar Yadav should let the bat speak for itself, according to former India assistant coach Abhishek Nayar. At a strike rate of over 105, the right-handed batsman, who turned 35 earlier this year, has been in terrible form in T20Is in 2025, managing just 100 runs in 11 innings. Although he may have overshadowed the Asia Cup victory, the captain of India would be the first to own that, when it came to batsmanship, he failed the team.

The right-hander, who scored 717 runs for the Mumbai Indians, lit up the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 stage. It is unclear if he would be able to improve in the five-match series against Australia, though, given his dismal performance in international T20 cricket.

If Suryakumar continues to play poorly in Australia, Nayar thinks that his form would probably draw internal scrutiny and that the support staff will have to challenge it.

“This tour to Australia offers an intriguing situation. Team wins tend to mask individual efforts, but any decline in performance will be cause for concern. Since Suryakumar has been the top-ranked batsman in T20I cricket for a considerable amount of time and is India’s captain, his prolonged streak without noteworthy runs at number three will undoubtedly draw internal criticism, JioStar Nayar stated on “Game Plan.”

Australian conditions, with their bounce and pace, should actually help his batting style because we know his class and impact potential. Since his current production doesn’t accurately reflect his ability, the most important questions will ultimately come from within,” he continued.

Not even fifty

Suryakumar Yadav has played 12 Twenty20 Internationals for India in 2025; however, he hasn’t scored a single fifty. His best score was 47 not out against Pakistan in the Asia Cup 2025 group stage.

The entire Indian squad has taken a bold stance, and Suryakumar’s high-risk style of play is to blame for his shortcomings. But before he starts putting the bowlers through their paces, the Indian skipper needs to take a moment to relax and simply gain a sense of the situation.

Suryakumar is under extreme pressure to regain form and return to the running order as quickly as possible since Shubman Gill is breathing down his neck. When the T20 World Cup is held in India and Sri Lanka the following year, a booming SKY is essential if India is to win the event again.

India and Australia will play their maiden Twenty20 International in Canberra on Wednesday, October 29.
