Have your lab results been the only basis for a thyroid diagnosis and drug prescription? Even though these figures provide insightful information, they don’t always provide the whole picture. Your thyroid function may be subtly being affected by routine behaviors and unnoticed environmental stimuli.

A nutrition coach with training from the Institute for Integrative Nutrition and an expert in gut and hormone health has identified ten hidden elements that may be subtly interfering with thyroid function.

As she notes in an Instagram video, “Your thyroid regulates much more than simply your metabolism. Your energy, hormones, mood, periods, digestion, and even the condition of your skin are all expertly regulated by it.  According to the hormone health specialist, lab findings by themselves frequently don’t provide the whole picture because the true triggers are often hidden pressures in daily life and the environment.

Soy

Tanisha claims that certain people’s thyroid hormone synthesis may be hampered by eating soy products.

Anxiety

One of the biggest threats to hormonal health is stress. Tanisha emphasizes that thyroid conversion can be slowed down by persistently high cortisol levels brought on by inadequate stress management.

The use of pesticides

Another important cause of endocrine disruption is pesticides. The hormone health expert claims that “pesticide overloads detox pathways and interferes with your endocrine system.”

Not getting enough sleep

The expert claims that getting too little sleep can impair the body’s natural healing mechanisms and reduce thyroid-stimulating hormone levels.

Tanisha emphasizes that the body uses undereating or even c like intermittent fasting as a signal to conserve energy. Thyroid hormone synthesis is lowered as a result.

Excessive physical activity

Stress from exercising more than your body can take might raise cortisol levels. This can throw off your whole hormonal balance, says Tanisha.

Low levels of iron, zinc, or vitamin D

The hormone specialist emphasizes that low levels of minerals like zinc and iron, as well as vitamins like vitamin D, can interfere with the synthesis of thyroid hormones.

Low levels of magnesium or selenium

Minerals such as magnesium and selenium are necessary for healthy thyroid function. “Both support hormone conversion and reduce inflammation,” says Tanisha.

Skin and care items

Tanisha claims that phthalates and parabens, two hormone disruptors included in many traditional body and cosmetic products, can interfere with thyroid function.

Products for laundry

Hormonal imbalance may result from the use of traditional laundry products, such as powder detergent. These goods have been identified by the hormone specialist as “another sneaky source of endocrine-disrupting toxins.”
