The yearly High School Summer PASS program is back, according to Planet Fitness, one of the biggest and fastest-growing franchisors and operators of fitness facilities with more members than any other fitness brand. The program, which is in its fifth year, encourages high school students between the ages of 14 and 19 to work out for free at any of the more than 2,700 Planet Fitness facilities across the United States and Canada this summer in order to feed their passions. From Sunday, June 1 through Sunday, August 31, teens can sign up for the program with club access at PlanetFitness.com/SummerPass.

Planet Fitness has spent over $300 million in waived membership fees since the program’s inception in 2019 in an effort to support youth wellness and health and enhance the physical and mental well-being of millions of teenagers. During the summer, when many young people lack access to organized physical activities, millions of students have benefited from Planet Fitness’ High School Summer Pass program, which has helped them develop healthy fitness habits.

Planet Fitness carried out a statewide survey to learn more about the issues facing today’s youth and how to help them. The study’s main findings were as follows:

  • Mental Health Is a Serious Issue: Seventy-two percent of parents think regular exercise can help their teen’s mental wellness, and sixty-six percent are worried about their teen’s stress levels and general well-being. Regretfully, over three out of five teenagers say that as they age, their stress and anxiety are getting worse rather than better.
  • Exercise Is the Answer: Remarkably, 90 percent of teenagers claim that exercise makes them happier, and 88 percent report feeling happier after working out.
  • Exercise is More Than Just Physical Health: According to teens, 93 percent of them agree that regular exercise is helpful for coping with difficulties, and they believe it helps them deal with the emotional highs and lows of adolescence.
  • The Consumption of Screen Time: Eighty-one percent of teenagers admit that they spend a large amount of their day on social media and playing video games. Actually, almost four out of five teenagers say that being off social media is beneficial.
  • Fitness Takes a Hit in the Summer: Half of teenagers say that when school is out for summer break, they tend to become less fit.

“At Planet Fitness, we offer a high value experience to both our members and High School Summer Pass participants in a welcoming, Judgement Free environment where everyone can get a great workout,” stated Colleen Keating, Chief Executive Officer. “With free access to our clubs throughout the summer, we’re providing teens with the tools they need to develop healthy fitness habits that can last a lifetime. We look forward to welcoming teens this summer to experience the mental and physical health benefits of exercise in the Judgement Free Zone®.”

Planet Fitness has partnered with U.S. gymnast and two-time Olympic medalist Stephen Nedoroscik to promote the 2025 High School Summer Pass program. Nedoroscik is aware of the benefits of exercise for overall wellness from an early age, both physically and mentally.

“Fitness and training have always been a huge part of my life – not just for competing, but for who I am as a person,” stated Stephen Nedoroscik, U.S. gymnast and 2-Time Olympic Medalist. “Staying at the top of my game, especially on the pommel horse, takes a ton of focus, discipline, and consistency. I’ve been lucky to train in places and with people that make me feel supported – and that positive environment makes all the difference. That’s why I am excited to team up with Planet Fitness this summer to support their annual High School Summer Pass program. Giving teens free access to a place to move, feel confident, and chase their goals is powerful. It’s a chance for young people to discover their strength, inside and out.”

All High School Summer Pass participants will have access to:

  • Planet Fitness’ complete range of strength equipment, including new plate-loaded machines, best-in-class cardio equipment, stretching space and more
  • Free fitness training from certified fitness trainers4
  • Teen-specific workout plans designed to build strength safely and effectively
  • The free Planet Fitness App featuring hundreds of on-demand digital exercises
  • A welcoming, non-intimidating community environment
