Women who have PCOS, a hormonal condition, may experience mood swings, irregular menstruation, weight gain, obesity, acne, and other issues. A few weeks ago, a gynecologist described how insulin resistance and PCOS can lead to sudden weight gain and extreme sweets cravings.
“If you have PCOS and often struggle with intense sugar cravings, unexplained weight gain (especially around your abdomen), or feel drained after meals, you’re not alone. Many women don’t realise that these symptoms point to insulin resistance; a key factor behind irregular cycles, acne, and stubborn weight gain,” the gynaecologist wrote.
“You can take control, and it all starts with small, daily habits, especially with what you eat first thing in the morning,” Dr. added as she shared a list of five food items that we must consume in an empty stomach to manage insulin resistance and PCOS symptoms.
1. Fenugreek (methi) water: In the morning, drink the water made from a teaspoon of fenugreek seeds that have been soaked overnight. It enhances insulin sensitivity and lowers blood sugar.
2. Water with cinnamon: Bring a cinnamon stick to a boil and leave it overnight. It can help lower cravings and regulate blood sugar when consumed in the morning.
3. Amla (Indian gooseberry): In the morning, consume one fresh amla or a tiny amount of amla juice. It promotes general hormone balance and insulin sensitivity.
4. Alsti (flaxseeds): overnight, k a spoonful of flaxseeds and consume them the next day. They are high in omega-3 fatty acids and fiber, which promote better digestion and insulin regulation.
5. Soaked almonds: Consume 5–6 almonds that have been soaked overnight. Magnesium and good fats support stable blood sugar levels.
PCOS isn’t just about irregular periods, it’s about how your body processes food, stress, and hormones. These small, consistent changes can have a powerful impact on how you feel every day. The importance of adopting healthy daily habits to effectively manage symptoms.
