The Cadillac Formula 1® Team reached a significant turning point in its ascent to the most prestigious motorsport championship in the world when it unveiled the livery of its first Formula 1® challenger. When the American team makes its much-awaited debut in Formula 1® as the sport’s eleventh team in 2026, it will continue to use the eye-catching black and white scheme.
A national television commercial showcased the livery to a global audience during Super Bowl LX at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California. The Super Bowl is one of the most watched events in the world, drawing in over 130 million spectators and sparking discussions at the nexus of entertainment, culture, and sport. This makes it the ideal time for the team, which marks a dramatic new chapter in American involvement in Formula 1®, to make its global premiere before its Grand Prix début in Melbourne, Australia (March 6–8).
Fans got a close-up look at the color scheme when a dynamic copy of the inaugural Cadillac Formula 1® Team vehicle was presented in Times Square, the busiest place in the US, shortly after the TV commercial.
One side of the Cadillac Formula 1® Team car is black, and the other is white. A subtle reference to General Motors’ co-ownership and the recognizable Cadillac emblem, the design gradient that suggests speed when the vehicle is motionless is actually a repeating Cadillac chevron. Max Richter, one of the most significant modern composers in the world, composed the music for the livery reveal film, which was directed by Sam Piling, whose work is renowned for transforming straightforward concepts into powerful, visually striking statements. As a conscious design philosophy, the livery employs asymmetry: a yin-and-yang balance conveyed through stark black and white, where performance, grit, and determination meet aspiration, optimism, and ambition.
“This livery represents far more than a paint scheme; it represents who we are and what we bring to Formula 1,” stated Dan Towriss, CEO of Cadillac Formula 1 Team Holdings. “Every detail is intentional: bold, modern, and unmistakably American, while respecting the heritage and precision that define this sport. Choosing to reveal our first race livery during the Super Bowl and in the heart of Times Square is a way to introduce our identity to the world at the intersection of performance, culture, and entertainment, and to connect with fans in places far beyond the paddock.”
“Unveiling our official race livery is a huge milestone in a journey that started years ago—earning our place on the grid, assembling a world‑class team, and developing a race car worthy of Formula 1,” stated GM President Mark Reuss. “The momentum is building toward Melbourne and our Grand Prix debut. For GM, this race car showcases the American innovation, spirit, and pride we want to bring to the global stage of F1.”
Throughout 2026, the team will participate in 24 races at the highest level of motorsport, stopping at some of the most famous and historic racetracks in the world, including three in the United States: the Miami International Autodrome (May 1-3), the Circuit of the Americas in Austin (October 23-25), and the Las Vegas Strip Circuit (November 20-22).
“I’m extremely proud to reveal the colors of our 2026 Formula 1 challenger,” stated Cadillac Formula 1® Team Team Principal Graeme Lowdon. “Our team is founded on audacious vision and innovative leadership, which we demonstrated today by participating in one of the world’s most culturally significant athletic events in a way that no Formula 1 team has ever done before.”
The team, established from the ground up, maintains bases in Silverstone, Northamptonshire (UK), Charlotte, North Carolina (USA), and Indianapolis, Indiana (USA). It was founded as a collaboration between General Motors (GM) and TWG Motorsports, the motorsport division of TWG Global, with the goal of fusing a shared dedication to performance and innovation with a heritage of engineering excellence. The Cadillac Formula 1® Team benefits greatly from the infrastructure, know-how, and technical, operational, and commercial support that TWG and GM give.
Valtteri Bottas and Checo Pérez will be the team’s first Grand Prix drivers on the circuit. One of the most seasoned and successful driver pairings on the grid, the two are from Guadalajara, Mexico, and Nastola, Finland, respectively. They have 526 starts, 106 podium places, and 16 victories between them. Zhou Guanyu, a former Sauber and Ferrari driver, will be the team’s reserve driver in 2026. Colton Herta, a nine-time NNT INDYCAR SERIES race winner, will be the team’s test driver. He will balance these responsibilities with a seat in Formula 2, the last division on the FIA’s single-seater ladder prior to Formula 1®, with Hitech TGR.
