The World Athletics Cross Country Championships Tallahassee 26 will take place at Apalachee Regional Park, bringing together the top cross-country runners in the world. We anticipate thousands of spectators lining the course as these top athletes compete for significant international awards.

Olympians and world-class runners have arrived in Tallahassee, ready to compete for the world championships. More than 450 of the world’s best runners will participate in five championship events in front of an international audience, pitting traditional cross-country powerhouses like the United States, Kenya, Uganda, Ethiopia, Spain, and Great Britain against one another.

Leon County Commission Chairman Christian Caban noted the long-term value this event brings to the region. “Leon County is proud to welcome the world to Apalachee Regional Park for the World Athletics Cross Country Championships.” “With hundreds of elite athletes from nearly 50 countries, this event will put Tallahassee-Leon County on the international stage and is expected to generate more than $4 million in local economic impact. We’re honored to host—and committed to delivering an exceptional experience for athletes, fans, and our community.”

“Tallahassee stands ready to welcome the world for a truly historic event,” states Kerri Post, Executive Director for Visit Tallahassee. “Fans from near and far will experience world-class competition, unmatched energy, and the excitement of our destination in the spotlight on a global platform.”

Amanda Heidecker and Taylor Wheaton, co-chairs of the Local Organizing Committee, stress that the world championships are a significant occasion for Tallahassee’s place in the international cross-country sport as well as a communal milestone.

“This event represents years of collaboration,” stated Amanda Heidecker, Co-Chair and Director of Leon County Parks and Recreation. “From hundreds of local volunteers to thousands of spectators lining the course, these championships excite and inspire the community, and we’re proud to welcome the world.”

“Hosting the World Athletics Cross Country Championships is the crown jewel of Tallahassee’s sports tourism portfolio,” states Taylor Wheaton, Co-Chair and Senior Sports Sales Director for Visit Tallahassee. “The world is literally watching Tallahassee this weekend, and the championships will have a lasting positive long-term economic impact and visibility for our destination.”

The famed Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (FAMU) Marching 100 will play the National Anthem and other songs to kick off race day. With interactive activities, food trucks, live music, picture booths, a beer garden, and live watching sections, the Fan Zone will be the center of activity during the event, guaranteeing that every guest has an unforgettable time.

Children aged 12 and under enter free of charge, while spectator tickets are still available for $10. All race-day activities, including the Fan Zone, are accessible with a ticket. Get your tickets in advance to experience a once-in-a-generation championship with thousands of other fans.

After Saturday’s elite championship races, registered runners will compete in the Worlds Fun Run: Florida Edition, where they can choose between a 2K or 4K track that was used by the world’s best athletes earlier that day. In addition to helping the track and cross-country programs at Leon County Schools, participants will receive a commemorative medal.

Athletes and spectators attending the event will explore Florida’s Capital City’s characteristic undulating hills and canopy roadways. Known as “Trailahassee,” the area is home to more than 700 miles of trails as well as a thriving artistic and culinary scene. From our historic downtown to the depths of Wakulla Springs, Tallahassee welcomes visitors to explore a destination they won’t soon forget.
