Rashid Khan, the premier spinner for Afghanistan, became the first member of his squad to ever reach 200 ODI wickets.

This milestone was reached by the Afghan spin maestro, who claimed three wickets for 38 runs in his ten overs during his team’s opening ODI against Bangladesh in Abu Dhabi. Jaker Ali, Nurul Hassan, and Captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz were all taken out by him.

Rashid has now taken 202 wickets in 107 innings at an economy rate of 4.23 and an average of 20.28 in 115 ODIs. 7/18 are his greatest bowling numbers. Five five-wicket hauls and six four-wicket hauls are also included in his career statistics. Mohammed Nabi, an experienced all-rounder, comes in second with 176 wickets in 174 games, followed by Dawlat Zadran in third place with 115 wickets in 82 games.

Prior to the game, Bangladesh chose to bat first after winning the toss. A 101-run fourth-wicket partnership between Towhid Hridoy (56 in 85 balls, with a four and three sixes) and Mehidy (60 in balls, with a four and six) steadied the batting as Bangladesh faltered at 53/3.

Bangladesh finished at 221 runs with seven balls remaining, but Rashid’s three quick wickets and Hridoy’s run out left them in a precarious position once more.

In addition to Rashid, other wicket-takers included Allah Ghazanfar (2/55) Nangeyalia Kharote (1/32) and Azmatullah Omarzai (3/40).

Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran (23 in 25 balls, four boundaries) built up a 52-run partnership for the first wicket, giving Afghanistan a strong start to the 222-run chase.

Rahmat Shah (50 in 70 balls, with two fours) and Gurbaz (50 in 76 balls, with a four and six) forged a third-wicket stand of 78 runs. Both were dismissed at 136, but Omarzai’s quick 40 in 44 balls, six fours, and a six, combined with captain Hashmatullah Shahidi’s 33 in 46 balls, two fours, propelled Afghanistan close to the 200-run milestone. With five wickets and 17 balls remaining, Afghanistan chased down the mark, and Nabi (11*) and Shahidi remained undefeated.

The ‘Player of the Match’ award went to Omarzai for his batsmanship. Bangladesh won the T20I series 3-0, while Afghanistan leads the three-match ODI series 1-0.
