At the Asian U19 & U22 Boxing Championships 2025 in Bangkok, India won 27 medals overall in both age categories, with Ritika’s gold in the women’s 80+kg division capping the team’s run. Over the course of ten days, the dual championships brought together the top young boxers on the continent, testing the skills of the upcoming generation. India placed second overall in the U19 rankings and fourth in the U22.
The U19 team will bring home 14 medals in total, including three gold, seven silver, and four bronze. They trailed Uzbekistan (seven) in gold medals and had the highest total medal count. Additionally, the U22 team won four silver medals to finish their campaign with 13 overall.
There were 40 boxers from India, 20 in each age group, representing a solid mix of established winners and up-and-coming fighters who had made an impression on the home scene. The athletes emphasized how India is becoming a major boxing force in Asia.
In the women’s 80+kg final, Ritika won the only gold of the day by maintaining her poise under duress to defeat Assel Toktassyn of Kazakhstan. At the U19 and U22 Asian Boxing Championships, which were conducted concurrently over the past ten days, Ritika won India’s fourth gold medal by combining aggression and caution to deliver some devastating blows against a formidable opponent.
While Priya’s fierce battle against Yu Tian of China in the 60kg final resulted in a close 2:3 loss, Yatri Patel settled for a silver after losing to Khumorabonu Mamajonova of Uzbekistan in the women’s 57kg event during the morning session. In the men’s 75kg final later that day, Neeraj lost to Shavkatjon Boltaev of Uzbekistan. Ishan Kataria lost against Khalimjon Mamasoliev of Uzbekistan in the gold medal match for weights above 90 kg at the same time, and both of them took home silver.
India’s overall medal totals in both age and gender groups demonstrated the depth and power of its youth boxing program. In the Asian Championships earlier this year, the U-15 and U-17 teams combined for 43 medals. The U-15 team won the most gold medals in the competition, with 11 overall, led by the girls’ team, which won all of their finals and swept 10 of the 15 gold medals available.
